what is buah keras(Aleurites moluccane)?


Aleurites moluccane, generally known as candlenut tree or Indian Walnut and among other names.Aleurites moluccane is a native plant to Malaysia,polynesia and the South Sea Island with wide distributation througthout the south and southeast of Brazil and tropics.


the tree of Aleurites moluccane  can grow up to 10m tall.Aleurites  is derived from a Greek words meaning "wheaten flour" becouse of the appreance of the under surface of the leaves.the seeds of Aleurites moluccane cannot be eaten raw because its toxic,however if the seed were cooked it can be eaten sparingly as condiment.the part of Aleurites moluccane that has medicinal properties are the kernel and the leaves

  • stem bark traditionally used for diarrhoea (dysentery) and also typhoid and tumours
  • screened for many infectious diseases in other countries
  • decoction of the leaves used in treating coughs, diarrhea, pains in the chest and hernia. Boiled leaves were used for headaches, fever, ulcers, and gonorrhea

  • Mehanolic leaves extract at a dose of 300 mg/kg caused significant decrease in body temperature of rats
